Theft of mail and parcels during COVID-19 restrictions
InteRisk has been made aware of a rising number of mail and parcel theft incidents at commercial and residential sites during COVID-19 restrictions.
Stolen mail can be used to obtain sensitive company data, or as part of a process to obtain false identity documents.
InteRisk recommends the following actions to help minimise your risk:
- Implement processes to regularly check and clear mail items.
- Ensure all mailboxes are lockable and are of sufficient size and design that they prevent someone reaching into them. Or
- Contact Australia Post and arrange a mail redirection.
It is important to recognise that there will be a small number of people that will look for ways to manipulate any frailties in site security during COVID-19 restrictions. As a result, it is essential to ensure that our sites remain secure, especially if there has been a significant reduction in the number of staff on site.
